Mural: Carter Family Nursery

Y’all, I love a nursery mural moment - especially one that involves cute critters. From the moment the Carters said they wanted a woodland-inspired nursery, I knew it was going to be so good!

Like any project, we started with an initial inspiration meeting where the clients shared their mental and physical Pinterest boards with me. I asked them a plethora of questions beyond “What colors do you like?” and “What’s the general theme?” Rather, we talked about details like how they want to feel within the space, how we can make it the most functional, and what we can do to ensure it grows with their baby into toddler and preschool/kindergarten years. This couple wanted to lean into the forest vibes of peace and serenity and knew they wanted a main color of green and then either a cinnamon-woodsy or river-blue accent. They wanted to follow a wallpaper pattern style and incorporate not just animals but also trees, mushrooms, leaves, other botanicals, and a sunrise/sunset.

after initial critter concepts and color palettes were developed and refined, I created digital mocks using a photo of their nursery space. I want my clients to feel confident with their design choices, and a mockup always helps with the full visualization of the space.

Once the mocks are in the hands of the client, they can more confidently make their final decision with a few final revisions. In this case, we ended up scaling the design back to make the pattern a bit smaller with more iterations on the wall.

Below is a quick timelapse of the physical painting of this sweet nursery mural. I just adored creating it for this growing family and can’t wait to see their baby grow into both themselves and the space!

Forever painting all the walls,
