To call this project a rollercoaster would be an understatement, yet it's essential to acknowledge the incredible journey it has been. Collaborating with Amanda, a dancer of the ballroom “genre,” while I shuffled in from the “tap, jazz, ballet” world was a dance in itself. In our initial sessions, I eagerly absorbed every detail, discovering that the big sis-little sis dynamic was already at play. I say that a bit ironically as it didn’t dawn on us until much later that that’s actually the dynamic she naturally takes - the big sis mentor, ready to match your worst story with one of her own to make you feel better and will lovingly call your bluffs and celebrate your wins.
However, our journey wasn't just about shared interests; it was about transformative growth. Over a year and some change, I witnessed Amanda's willingness to tackle the tough questions and dive into the depths of her business. The evolution from a muted color palette to an unapologetically bold one mirrors the internal shifts she courageously embraced. I’m just so grateful to have been a part of it and been able to help set the strategy to put her valuable dancer and creative resources in motion.
Below, delve into our design choices – from vibrant color palettes to expressive typography and logos. The typefaces, particularly the juxtaposition of sans serif uppercase and seriffed lowercase in 'Future History,' became the heartbeat of the brand. I wanted to add an accent typeface that felt liberated and expressive to tie it all together though. Something that would also be reminiscent of cursive notes, as part of the business, is writing down strategy (and as someone who’s now had many, many meetings with Amanda, she’s a physical writer - this makes sense as it’s authentically her). ‘Haute Couture’ was the perfect match.
